2001 Archived News   Back to the Current CBPA News

December 30, 2001

Well, the year 2001 is about to draw to a close, as is the voting for the CBPA 2001 Photo Contest... only a couple more days to get your votes in! So take the time to vote as the photographers in our membership went to a bit of effort to provide some new images for our photo gallery. Also, the voting for the 2002 Officers is probably a done deal, as all ballots should have been posted marked by today or tomorrow. Be sure to attend the January 2nd meeting at the Arvada City Hall to see those votes counted... the Meeting Page has all the info needed for the meeting.

An update on the new Forum software, most of the components have been installed, but there is an issue with our webhost installing some database software to allow the new Ikonboard 3.0 to work properly. I have contacted them, but have not heard back at this time, probably due to low staffing during the holiday season. The older version is still in place, and version 3.0 should be able to import all the topics, posts and member accounts, so I'm hoping the process goes smoothly once the database component is completed. While we are on the topic of the CBPA Forum, I've created a new discussion in the CBPA Members area which asks the question, "Where do you want the CBPA to focus its efforts in 2002?". Here is a direct link to that discussion... If you have not joined the forum yet, please take the time to do so, as it is easier than attending a physical meeting and gives the membership a place to make their feelings known.

For all that come to this humble website, thanks for your attendance and participation... the CBPA would like to wish you all, a Happy New Year!

December 22, 2001

The Meetings page was updated with information for the January 2nd meeting, be sure and check it if you plan to attend. We'd like to close the voting on the Photo Contest, so see the Dec 8th post below for info on getting your vote in.

One other item of note, the Forum software we use has finally reached a "gold" status with the latest version, and there will be a change to it in the near future. It should allow a direct conversion, so the hope is that all member accounts and previous posts will be retained, but I will update here as that occurs.

Finally, the CBPA would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays!

December 8, 2001

The CBPA Christmas party was fun with some good food to eat. Thanks to Tamra Krebs for bringing the lasagna, salad and cookies. The Photo Contest pictures were passed around, and we realized one entry was missing, so we decided to place them online and let the whole membership vote on them. Go to the Photo Contest Entries and pick your 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the 3 categories: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Be SURE to pick the 3 places in each category, so your email will contain nine votes. Just list each category, and then the picture numbers in the order you liked them the best. There is cash on the line for the winners and the voting deadline is December 31st, so take the time to vote :)

One more reminder, the end of the month is also the deadline on voting for the 2002 Officers, so get those ballots mailed in!

December 4, 2001

I'm connected once again! Due to Excite pulling the plug on AT&T subscribers, I've been offline until tonight... you don't realize how you miss connectivity to the Net, until you have none. I hope it stays smooth, but expect some glitches here and there as they migrate the 800,000 or so users over to the new settings.

The ballots for the 2002 Officers were mailed out, and you should have them in your hands by the time you read this. Be sure and fill out your ballot and have it in before the end of the month. Ballots will be counted at the January 2nd meeting, tentatively scheduled for 9:00 am at the Arvada City Hall. The December Newsletter was also in that packet, and available here on the website as well.

Don't forget the Christmas Party tomorrow night! Check the Meetings Page for the full info... We'll be voting on the photos for the photo contest, and should be posting the winning entries shortly.

I hope you are enjoying some of the animated GIF's I've been adding, they make websites more enjoyable and fun and you should see more of them as appropriate :)

November 29, 2001

The Meetings Page is updated with the address and map information for the Christmas Party Meeting next Wednesday! This is the end of the year bash for the CBPA, with some good food to enjoy for all.

We will also be voting on the 2001 Photo contest entries, so if you've been procrastinating on getting your entries in, the deadline is this coming Monday. The ballots for next years officers should be hitting the mail soon, so be sure and send in those ballot cards once you've made your choices.

News - 11/14/2001

The Home Page was updated with testing dates for 2002 backflow tester certifications. Also of note, the last test date of the year is this coming Saturday, November 17, at Red Rocks... see the Home Page for more info.

The electronic chat room for the CBPA has been setup with the connection information listed below. A few of your officers are using the room (which runs 24/7), with the rest giving it a go in the next week or two. Your webmaster is usually in there most evenings. So grab a free copy of mIRC here, and get it a try. IRC is a great multi-tasking program, so if you are surfing the web, open up that mIRC client at the same time!

One last thing, some pictures are coming in for the 2001 Picture Contest, which will be processed in the next week or so, if you plan to enter, don't delay much longer...

News - 11/7/2001

The monthly meeting was held today at the Ralston Water Treatment Plant in Arvada, a nice setting in the foothills with beautiful view from the meeting room. There was a decent turn-out, and the conference feedback forms were discussed. Most of the feedback was very positive and should help in planning next years event. Some nominations were made for the 2002 Officers, but the actual deadline for all nominations is November 27th (I'll double-check that date). If there is any member of the CBPA you wish to nominate for the offices of President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary, be sure to do that fairly soon. You may submit any nominations by email here.

One suggestion that caught our eye was to host electronic meetings via the Internet. To that end, I've setup a hosted IRC channel. IRC, or Internet Relay Chat, has been around since before the popularity of the World Wide Web, and is designed around the concept of chat rooms. For our computer savvy members, the pertinent information follows:

Server irc.enterthegame.com
Port 6667
Channel #cbpa

If you already use an IRC client or software package, the above info should get you there. If you do not have an IRC client, I would recommend mIRC, a wonderful shareware package that opens up the world of IRC. Their download site is right here. This page contains the downloads for getting this IRC software client which is fully functional. Install the product, and with the above server information, you can join nightly if you wish to chat with other members of the CBPA!

In the near future, I plan to write a more detailed explanation of configuring mIRC to connect to our chat room. In the meantime, if you are interested in starting now, just email me and I'll try to assist as much as possible. There is nothing like attending a meeting from the comfort of your home via the Internet, bring your own refreshments, kick back and enjoy :)

Update - 11/5/2001

Added the November 2001 Newsletter on the Newsletter page...

News - 11/4/2001

Kristi James, our former CBPA President, sent along word of a free seminar on December 6th, which is a Thursday. It is sponsored by ASPE (American Society of Professional Engineers), and will feature Courtney Arford, President of IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials); and Glenn Bodnar of the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. Courtney will be speaking about plumbing codes, and Glenn will talk about backflow prevention.

Looks like an interesting seminar, if you want more information, view this announcement here. Seating is limited, so RSVP soon.

Update - 11/3/2001

Added the minutes from the August & September meetings to the Minutes page, thanks for sending those over Judy. One other note, the link to the form for application to take a backflow test for State certification is broken... I'm in contact with John Bird to fix this, if you have a question about this, or wish to take the test, I recommend calling John for more information.

News - 11/1/2001

Been another long time since an update, things have been slow... the Meetings Page was updated with info about the meeting on November 7th, so be sure and check it out if you plan to attend. It is time to nominate officers for the coming year, and that will also take place at the meeting. In addition, the feedback forms from the 2001 CBPA Annual Conference have been collated, and there will be discussion of that as well.

One suggestion that stuck out to me from the feedback forms, was the idea of having electronic meetings. A couple evening meetings per month via the Internet might be a great way to meet, discuss and plan CBPA events. For those that might be interested, please email us if this sounds feasible. If you would like to check out a FREE IRC (Internet Relay Chat) program, stop by the mIRC website and download this fantastic program. Your webmaster has used this program for years, and it is THE program to use for Internet Relay Chat.

December is the deadline for the 2001 Photo Contest, but sure and check out that page if you plan to enter.

News - 9/25/2001

If you missed the CBPA Annual Conference last week, you missed a great event. The CBPA would like to thank the Lieutenant Governor of Colorado, Joe Rogers, for delivering the keynote address. He talked about water in Colorado, our status as a sole source state, and the terrible tragedy in the New York, Washington and Philadelphia. He went on to thank the audience for our role in delivering quality drinking water to the State of Colorado, and how important quality drinking water is. All the other speakers delivered informative presentations, and made this a very worthwhile event. At the end, a lot of really nice door prizes were handed out, along with the Limited Edition Colorado Avalanche Print. The CBPA would also like to thank all the speakers, vendors & attendees, thanks for participating!

On another note, we've extended the deadline for the 2001 Photo Contest, so be sure and stop by this page to check on rules and the extended submission deadlines.

News - 9/17/2001

Just a reminder, the CBPA Annual Conference is only 2 DAYS away... be sure to check out the 2001 Conference Page for additional information. There are two new PDF files that Judy sent to me, one is the Conference Agenda, the other is a Special Edition Newsletter that provides additional information. Those that are on the email list should receive a direct link via that route as well.

Finally, the CBPA would like to extend condolences and prayers to the families of those missing in the tragic World Trade Center attack, and best wishes to all the police, fire and rescue personnel working at the scene.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I can hear you.  The rest of the world hears you.  And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon."
--President George W. Bush, speaking to rescue workers in New York City

News - 9/5/2001

The September Newsletter is online here, though it was available two days ago to those that have email addresses listed in our database. If you wish to receive the newsletter by email, send your current, correct email address to us here. Some members mentioned that they did not know where the meeting was today due to not receiving the newsletter in a timely basis. Please remember that the Meetings Page is always up to date, and you can also find phone numbers and email addresses for your officers on the Officers Page to get additional information.

Due to a large number of buttons on the left side of the Home Page, a LOT of information was consolidated into the CBPA Info Page, if you've never clicked that link and are a CBPA member, I urge to you check it out. It contains the majority of information about our activities and is where we list meetings and times.

The CBPA 2001 Photo Contest page is ready for submissions, and I know a lot of you have been collecting those images. The deadline for submission is Monday, September 17th, sorry for such short notice, but it is finally ready to go.

News - 8/18/2001

Been a bit slow lately, so a long time between updates... the Newsletters & Minutes page was updated, so stop by and check out the last few meetings if you missed them. The last meeting was good, with a interesting presentation of confined space entry by Jim Whitelaw, of Hot Box

I will try and get the 2001 Photo Contest page setup this weekend, so if you've been saving those images, get ready to send them in. The photos will be voted on by the CBPA Annual Conference attendees, so that will be happening in September.

News - 7/28/2001

As you may have noticed on the home page, there is now a link to the CBPA Annual Conference. Be sure to print out the links on that page, and get signed up early. This year, your officers have put together an exciting agenda and some fabulous door prizes! The grand prize is a limited edition, framed picture of the Colorado Avalanche (you can see it in the color brochure on the Conference Page), very nice indeed.

In other news, the CBPA Northern Subchapter sent in their August newsletter with info on their upcoming meetings, be sure and check it out if you attend meetings in Fort Collins

News - 7/15/2001

For those of you who missed the BBQ, it was quite the memorable event! Ron Chapman addressed those in attendance briefly, then had a chance to circulate around and meet our officers and members in a more personal manner. Randy Engle of Engsoft, who helped to sponsor the BBQ, attended the event, and had a chance during his two day stay to demo the latest version of their cross connection software to a few local water purveyors. Both Randy and Ron indicated a desire to attend our 2001 Annual Conference, so for those who missed them, they will back this fall.

The highlight of the BBQ was a bit of rain towards the end, and an amazing display of lightning by Mother Nature, but the shelter provided a wonderful cover from the elements. There was more than enough food to go around, and some great desserts provided by some of the attendees.

The CBPA would like to thanks its sponsors for this event:

  • Randy Engle of Engsoft

  • Fred & Corey Spengler, Backflow Consulting Testing & Repair

  • Drinking Water and Backflow Prevention Magazine

  • The City of Aurora

We can now set our sights on the interesting monthly meetings coming up (see the Meetings Page), and the CBPA 2001 Annual Conference coming in September! If you get a moment, take the time to thank your officers for their hard work in setting up an exciting agenda for the next few months...

As for website news, the Meetings Page was updated with a map or two, and as you can tell, this page was cleaned up and archived on the Archived 2001 News page. Finally, progress on the latest version of our forum software has been going well, and with any luck, the developers should release a gold version 3 within a month or so. It should offer an astounding upgrade for us, while providing the same ease of use we've come to expect. Please take a moment to join the CBPA Forum, you'll find it is fun to use :) Click the image below to get started!

Update - 7/3/2001

I made a mistake in the mass emailing on the link to the July Newsletter, the first link that looks like "July Newsletter" links to the June Newsletter instead. The second one below works fine though, so use that one. Be sure to read the July Newsletter for updated info on the Aurora Reservoir BBQ meeting. Click on this link to view the forum thread on the subject :)

Also, it is time to celebrate the 225th birthday of this country, the CBPA would like to wish you a Happy 4th of July! Here are a link to the wording of the document this country is founded on, it is our Declaration of Independence from England.

Update - 6/25/2001

Due to Park regulations, we have to finish our meeting around 8:30 pm, so if you wish to arrive early it shouldn't be a problem. Be sure and RSVP to Tamee & Corey below, and let them know how many are attending with you so that we can get an accurate head count. In addition, I've been told that potato salad and baked beans are already on the menu, so if you bring a potluck dish, it would be nice to ask either of them what to bring :)

They can also fill you in on any special park entry instructions, so be sure and ask...

News - 6/24/01

Make sure to call Corey & Tamee below with those RSVP's, and we also need to know how many family members you plan to bring... in addition, we will have to end the meeting at 8:30 due to park requirements, and concerns about lighting.

Update - 6/22/2001

Just wanted to correct a mistake on the time the Aurora Reservoir meeting starts, the real start time is 6:00 pm, be sure and note that change :)

In addition, if you plan on attending, you must RSVP by 7/9/2001 to:

Corey or Fred Spengler  Email here 303-680-5501
Tamra Krebs Email here 303-435-7548

Food will not begin to be served until 6:00 pm.  All non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.  Please bring a favorite sidedish. Families are encouraged to come!  Someone will be there at the shelter before the meeting to provide information for entertainment at the reservoir. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Fred, Corey, or Tamra at the numbers listed above.

News - 6/21/01

Just to let you know, we are talking about the reservoir meeting in the CBPA Forum, the specific link is below... give it a little click :) It is the area to ask questions, make plans, etc...

Talk about the Aurora Reservoir Meeting

News - 6/20/01

Woohoo, the July 11th evening BBQ meeting is set! We can now announce that the meeting will be held at the Aurora Reservoir, from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. If you've never been to this site, it is a beautiful reservoir, used by Aurora for backup water storage, and as such, no motorized boats are allowed on the water. It is a paradise for sailboats and sailboards. Below are a few pictures to check out:

Swimbeach1.jpg (264931 bytes) Swimbeach2.jpg (293878 bytes) shelter1.jpg (209224 bytes) shelter2.jpg (275850 bytes) shelter3.jpg (291476 bytes) shelter4.jpg (258443 bytes)

As mentioned on the Meetings Page, Ron Chapman will be attending to address our members, and there will be food & pop provided by the CBPA & Randy Engle of Engsoft. Those members that are water purveyors will also get a chance to see one of Aurora's "hidden" reservoirs, that has become a paradise on the plains, and the premiere sailboarding spot in the Denver area. For more info on the Aurora Reservoir, click here, and here. In addition, check out this area map of the facility. Our meeting will be held in one of the shelters pictured above, between the off shore moorings and the swim beach (shown in the area map). You may also bring family members who can enjoy the wide range of activities there, swimming, biking, paddleboat rentals and more! We are encouraging those attending to also bring a potluck side dish or dessert.

News - 6/18/01

Well, sorry for the lack of updates lately, life jumps in to intervene now and then :) The June meeting in Castlerock was a great meeting, especially for water purveyors looking at cross connection control software. The CBPA would like to thank Randy Engle of Engsoft, not only for flying out to demo their software, but for buying lunch AND sponsoring our upcoming evening BBQ meeting on July 11th. Thanks Randy! The software demo'd, XC2, seems to have every feature a water purveyor could ask from a CCC monitoring program.

Which brings up the July 11th meeting, as mentioned on the Meetings Page, Ron Chapman (President of the ABPA) will be our guest speaker. This should be an excellent meeting, as I'm sure Ron will fill us in on events occurring on the national backflow prevention scene. We are trying to get a shelter at the Aurora Reservoir, but if that falls through, we have an alternate site. If we are approved for the Aurora Res, I have some pictures of the site for your viewing enjoyment that will be posted on the Meetings Page. When we know for sure, I'll post an update here...

Update - 6/1/2001

Be sure and check the modified date below for next weeks meeting, I posted the wrong date in error (Website Rule #17, don't do website stuff when tired!). Also, Judy sent in a picture of the PACE (Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence), you can view it on this page :)

Update - 5/30/2001

Check the updates on the Meetings Page. Also, the mass mailing for the June Newsletter was done tonight, though the paper versions were mailed Tuesday. Be sure and RSVP by Friday, June 1st to Leigh as mentioned below, as the June 6th meeting is next Wednesday.

News - 5/29/2001

Ok, the June Newsletter is done, and the mass mailing for those that wish to receive it that way should occur shortly, or you can direct link to it here. In addition, IAPMO has proposed some changes to Uniform Plumbing Code, you can view the changes here. The CBPA Forum is getting fairly active, and up to 29 members... if you look in the Sport Forum under this direct link, I have an awesome edited image I took of the Stanley Cup when it was showing in the Aurora Mall, go Avs!

Also, time is tight for the next meeting on June 5th, which has lunch provided. You need to RSVP before June 4th to Leigh via email, or at 303-814-6410!

News - 5/22/2001

Backflow testers should take note, with the passage of their new ordinance, Colorado Springs Utilities is requiring a session for backflow testers who wish to test in their district. Here is the Orientation Document that you should read for more information.

News - 5/19/2001

On May 15th, the Colorado Cross Connection Control Advisory Committee held a meeting at the Fort Collins Service Center, which was immediately followed up by a meeting with the CBPA Northern SubChapter. The evening meeting was well attended by testers, purveyors, and others interested in backflow prevention. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next meetings (a lunch time meeting with lunch provided by both the CBPA & XC2, a cross connection software vender), which will be at Noon on June 6th. Check the Meetings page for all the info... The regular CBPA business meeting will occur from Noon till 1:00 pm, with the software demo following up till 4:00 pm if needed.

On the website, I have added a section to the Picture Gallery to begin the process for our 2001 Photo Contest, head on over to check it out. I still need to take the time to clean up from our last contest, so once I get some free time, I'll be rearranging things in there. For this next contest, I'd prefer everyone who can do pictures in a digital format, to zip their pictures along with a text description. You can get the shareware program WinZip right here, there is an evaluation version that works fine.

Finally, the CBPA Forum is getting more members all the time, and we're working with area manufacturers on building their forums into a valuable resource for members, with hot links to backflow preventer manuals, contacts to vendors, and other such goodies. So don't be shy, head on over and join in on the fun!

News - 5/8/2001

Remember to join the forum, the more, the merrier! Click below to join the fun...

The CBPA Forum... Practice the art of conversation!

News - 5/6/2001

The meeting last Wednesday was a success, and the lunch brought in from Marie Callender's restaurant was very tasty. Discussion took place on the upcoming CBPA 2001 Annual Conference, some talk about the website here, and how the CBPA can be more pro-active in light of the Mississippi legislation that removed a lot of cross connection regulations in that state.

In website news, we've added a File Upload component here that allows members to upload files for use by the CBPA. If you need to download a file there, contact me via email to get directions for downloading. The page is found under the CBPA Info link, or directly here. Additionally, the March 2001 minutes were posted on the Newsletters & Minutes page.

Also, the first test of the CBPA email newsletter link occurred yesterday, and it was a success. We sent out 68 emails without a single bounce, which indicates that all the addresses in the database are valid. We asked the 68 recipients to opt for an email only version of the newsletter to save on the extravagant US mail costs we incur annually. Sending the newsletter this way can save a lot of money, and appears to work successfully, so be sure and get that email address sent to Leigh or myself so we can update the database. If you did not receive the email test yesterday, there were a few addresses added to the database this morning, specifically Kristi, Craig & Mike... so you three should see it next time :)

On a side note, we finally got to 4000 hits on the site here, I could have been 2000 of those, but it is a milestone :)

News - 4/26/2001

Next Wednesday is our meeting at the Arvada Wastewater Treatment plant, if you are planning to attend be sure and let Leigh Fenton know. In addition, lunch will be provided at a cost of $5 per person, so part of the reason to contact Leigh is to give her your lunch preference. Check the Meetings Page for more information and a map. Remember, the deadline to RSVP to Leigh is April 30th, this coming Monday! All the CBPA officers should be giving reports on the ABPA National convention, as will a couple other CBPA members that attended the event. It should be an informative meeting for all.

The CBPA Forum is picking up speed, with a few new members joining up... We're trying to line up area manufacturers to host their own forum with information on their products, and support info as well. This should include links to web resources they may host, like specifications on backflow preventers, and other such tidbits of knowledge :) Some of the general interest forums include Movies, Sports and anything else we'd like to discuss. Email those forum & topic suggestions!

News - 4/21/2001

As you may have noticed, the site layout has changed quite a bit, mostly to clean-up the format somewhat and to allow for possibly adding a page for the Colorado Cross Connection Control Advisory Committee. This has been in discussion for a while, but a little more time is needed to flesh out how this will work.

This weekend, our CBPA officers will be flying out to Kansas City, Missouri to attend the National ABPA Annual Convention. Should be a worthwhile event, and there will be reports on the happenings there when they return at the next monthly meeting in Arvada.

I would also like to once again invite you to join our CBPA Forum, we already have 11 members that have joined, and it is starting to heat up with some interesting conversations. Registration and a valid email address are all that is required to join, and I have some interesting moderators lined up for the different forums. Suggestions for new forums are always welcome, so email me if you'd like to suggest a new forum subject, or even if you would like to moderate a forum (High pay and world wide recognition!).

News - 4/15/2001

Happy Easter to all! In my spare time, I finally added a new bulletin board system to the website. I got fed up with the UBB version we were evaluating and have added Ikonboard, a free system that was highly rated by websites that rate that sort of thing.

I've already added the link to the page on the left, the CBPA Forum. Due to the nature of bulletin board software, you will have to register once you get to the forum. Once you register, you are emailed your login and password to access the forum. Usually, you log into a system like this once, and your internet browser stores that information in a cookie, saving you from having to do it again (you will have to have cookies enabled for this to work). Those that are CBPA members can email me for access to CBPA only areas, but there are general areas as well.

Suggestions for Category or Forum themes are welcome, so email me anything you might suggest.

News - 4/14/2001

It should be somewhat invisible to all of you, but we've transferred the website to a new Internet Service Provider (ISP). If things seemed a little weird last week, that might explain what was happening. I had problems during the domain name transfer, but all seems fine now. The reason for the transfer was lack of support by our previous ISP for settings needed to implement the new bulletin board software.

The new bulletin board software is in place, and being tested by select Officers and CBPA members, and should be followed by purchase of the full version. The demo version in use now is very limited, and won't be unveiled to general usage until we become registered. The new BBS software, once implemented, has so much more power than the flat file type of forum now in use. Needless to say, I'm excited about the addition of this software, and hope that our new CBPA Forum will see usage not only on the state level, but on a national level as well.

Site News

The Newsletter/Minutes page has been updated, so check out the May 2001 Northern Chapter minutes for news of the May CBPA/AC meeting, as well as updated info on the Meetings page.

News - 4/9/2001

The meeting on 4/4/2001 was a good meeting, we had over 30 people attend. Thanks again to Leigh for hosting us at their facility. There was a lot of news discussed, mainly in the area of upcoming meetings. The Pueblo 2001 Spring Backflow Conference was mentioned. On May 15th, the Colorado Cross Connection Control Advisory Committee with meet with the Northern Chapter of the CBPA in Fort Collins, this will be a night meeting from 6pm till 9pm.

Quite a few CBPA members will be attending the Annual ABPA Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, you can view the conference agenda here. In addition, the Western ABPA conference to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 1-3, 2001. The CBPA will be running a photo contest there, as well as the photo contest for our chapter at our annual conference. Photos entered in the CBPA photo contest can be submitted to the Western ABPA conference as well, so get those pictures going this summer :)

Speaking of the photo contests, we finally were able to award the winners from last years pictures, and Steve Eastburn, Justin Hoffman, and Mike Hayes received their cash awards. All three of them commented on how easy it was to win with so few entries, and they all plan to enter again this year. Lets see all you give them some competition!

Finally, Tammy Krebs submitted information to ABPA national to again enter us in the PACE awards. These awards are given out annually by the ABPA to chapters that promote backflow education in their areas. The packet submitted by Tammy was passed around, and once again showed how active our chapter is in backflow prevention, and with any luck, we'll get a chance to win again this year.

News - 4/2/2001

The monthly meeting is this Wednesday, if you plan to attend, be sure to check out the Meetings page for more information and a map. This one is in Castlerock, so plan ahead... We should finally be awarding the winners of the Photo contest, and we should be announcing how the next photo contest will be run for the Annual Colorado CBPA Conference. Those rules will be on the website here, so stay tuned...

As for site news, I added a few of the Minutes that were missing, and the Newsletters for those that don't receive them in the mail. In addition, Dutch Mead down in Pueblo announced their 2001 Spring Backflow Conference. You can view the announcement on the Newsletters & Minutes page, or directly view the announcement by clicking here.

News - 3/19/2001

Not a lot to report, but again, apologies for the down time the past 7 days... must be a full moon lately causing the problems with the missing buttons on the left. It is fixed once again, and I hope it stays that way! On a side note, I also repaired the hit counter on the home page as I finally discovered how to fix it (why are some computer program things so obscure at times?).

News - 3/10/2001

Ok, now that the website seems to be back to normal... the CBPA meeting this past week was a success, with a lot of good food to go around. Thanks to Charlie Dove and Tim Butts for hosting the event! There was a regular meeting of the CBPA in which some business was conducted. In addition, Charlie went through how Flowmatic is trying to break into the Denver market of backflow devices, and what their devices offer to installers and testers.

Site news, due to the server crash and the attempts at fixes, the work on adding the new bulletin board software is back to ground zero. With any luck, the installation of the demo version will begin this week. I will also accept any links anyone would like to send in regarding recent backflow incidents in the news, if you find something newsworthy, send the information via email.

News - 3/8/2001

Whew, I think we're back up and running... Sorry about the down time, there was a server problem that was followed by virus in some of the site files here. A word of advice, it is not only important to have a virus scanner installed on your computer, but you must take the time to run an active virus scan on a regular basis.

I think everything is back to normal... if anyone finds a problem with the site, please send email

News - 2/14/2001

Happy Valentines Day! Hope you all had a nice day with that special someone...

Now for a bit of cross connection related news. It seems that Febco has settled their lawsuit against P & B, Ltd, a company that was making unapproved replacement parts for Febco backflow preventers. Thanks to DW&BP magazine for sending more information in a short article that can be read right here.

As for some site news, the February 2001 newsletter has been added to our Newsletter/Minutes archive. Check it out if you didn't receive your copy in the mail.

News - 2/13/2001

If you tried to access the site in the last two days, I apologize for the links to the left that had disappeared... all should be fixed now. I also noted that the link on the Home Page for the full text of the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations was broken, surprised no one spotted that one, but it is also fixed at this time.

An update to an earlier post about an enhanced bulletin board software, I'm currently working with our ISP provider to get the needed structure in place. Should be pretty soon now :)

News - 2/3/2001

Just some site news, both the Membership form and January Newsletter have been added in PDF format. There is a link on the Home page where you can download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, a must-have for any computer that uses the Internet.

In addition, we're currently experimenting with Ultimate Bulletin Board, a software package that will vastly improve our current Bulletin Board area. You can rest assured that once it has been tested and installed, that you'll be notified here!

News - 1/25/2001

Just an update, the phone number listed for the McNevin Company was listed incorrectly, and is now fixed on this page, AND on the Meetings page. If you tried to call and reserve your spot for the evening meeting on February 7th and connected to the wrong number, please try again. Once again, that number is 303-322-0165. The CBPA wishes to apologize to the elderly resident who received a few calls from people wanting to reserve their spot for the meeting!

Also, a few site errors were caught and should now be corrected. If you spot any errors or problems with this site, be sure to let us know via any of the email links provided, thanks :)

News - 1/14/2001

Lots of news going on right now... the elections are over and the results are as follows:

President Judy Schmidt
Vice President Fred Spengler
Secretary Tamra Krebs
Treasurer Leigh Fenton

Congratulations to the new officers and thanks to both Kristi James and Jason Everts for their work last year as President and Secretary! Kristi has done a lot of work in the area of promoting this organization, and leading the way in educating the public in backflow prevention. Jason will continue in directing educational efforts for the CBPA. I am in the process of updating the email addresses for the new officers, so the 2001 Officers page has been updated.

Photo Contest

The winners were picked at the January meeting, and all three persons who entered will receive awards at the February meeting. I should be updating the gallery soon to reflect the winning entries. Additionally, it was decided to begin a new photo contest starting now! We'd love to see more people enter this photo contest, which will be decided this fall at the Annual CBPA conference, with the voting being done by all attendees with a display showing all the entries. More info will follow after the February meeting.

News - 1/2/2001

Wow, another long time since an update... the December Christmas meeting was great, lots of good food to go around with Leigh and Judy taking care of that. Dale Strong gave a great presentation about their hydrant permitting program with a lot of handouts, and discussed their cross connection efforts as well. Larry Nelson also talked to the group about used parts, and passed around an original Febco part and a very close looking off-market part (hard to tell the difference if you didn't know what to look for). Thanks to both speakers for their informative presentations!

Updates - The Meetings page, the Newsletter/Minutes page, and the 2000 Officers page have been updated, so be sure and check them out.
